Northern Territory Under 17 Captain Thomas Andrews has debuted this week for the South Australia Futures League Team. Andrews, also a current member of the Northern Territory Under 19 team, batted at 9 and plied his trade as a left arm finger spinner in Brisbane against a strong Queensland Futures Side.

The highlight for the young 17 year old was the capture of his first wicket bowling Nick Stevens on his way to first innings figures of 1 for 59 off his 14 overs. The Futures League is the Australian national second XI cricket competition and only one step away from first class cricket.

Northern Territory Cricket’s General Manager - Cricket Development & Performance, John Stock, is very pleased to see Andrews gain an opportunity. “Thomas has been one of our (Northern Territory) stand out players at the 2011-12 National Championships at both Under 17 and Under 19 age group levels. Although this is obviously very pleasing for Thomas, it also shows our other talented players that the pathway to higher honours exists for those who get results and show potential. Northern Territory Cricket must also thank the South Australian Cricket Association who give our players such great opportunities.”
