Cricket Australia's Youth Selection Panel has announced NT rising stars Tom Andrews and Joel Logan as part of the 14-player Australian Under 19 squad to tour New Zealand from late March to early April.
The 14-player squad is a selection of Australia’s young, emerging talent; including Ben McDermott, son of former Australian fast-bowler Craig, 2013 U19 National Championship leading wicket-taker Cameron Valente, and batsman Kelvin Smith, who equalled Callum Ferguson’s U17 National Championship record of most runs in 2011.
CA National Talent Manager Greg Chappell said: “It’s a very exciting squad and follows on from our last two Under 19 programs, where we have been fortunate to have many quality players come through and earn national and state selection.
“This squad contains a good blend of batting, bowling – both pace and spin bowling – and fielding.
“Each of the players selected have the talent to go on to play first-class cricket in Australia and this tour to New Zealand will provide them with the opportunity to develop their skills as they push for higher selection.
“It is a busy schedule this year for our emerging players, with Australia Under 19 tours to New Zealand and India, as well as the One-Day Tri-Series between Australia, NZ and India, which will expose them to conditions and challenges similar to those faced at international level.
“The challenge will be for these young cricketers to take something out this tour to New Zealand and to build their mental game, as well as their physical game,” said Mr Chappell.
The squad will be coached by CA High Performance Coach Stuart Law, who was also the Australian U19 coach during the 2012 ICC U19 Cricket World Cup.
The Australian U19 squad is due to arrive in NZ on 27 March in time for the first match commencing on 30 March.
