Northern Territory Cricket (NTC) today announced the first of a series of warm up matches for the NT Strike team as they head towards competition in the SACA Premier League.
The NT Strike will play the New Zealand Under 19’s at Marrara on Thursday 27th June. In addition they will also play the team that finishes third in the upcoming Under 19 Tri Series, meaning a further fixture against Australia, India or the New Zealand Under 19 Team on Friday 12th July, likely to be held at the picturesque Gardens Oval.
NTC’s Chief Executive Officer John Stock is looking forward to the matches. “This is a valuable opportunity for the NT Strike to start their program as we build towards entry into the SACA Premier League in September. The two fixtures will allow a number of players to feature and show their worth towards final squad selection in early August.
“On the back of Ireland and Nepal Under 19 teams travelling to Darwin last year, we are continuing to schedule quality practice matches for the NT Strike, with the ultimate aim of continuing to produce chances for emerging Territorians to shine and go on to further honours,” he said.
The fixtures will also mark the commencement of a busy NT Strike program with players representing their Calder Shield franchises on the 21st, 26th, 27th and 28th July, as a final opportunity to show selectors their worth. A further match is planned for the 25th August against a team consisting of southern state and international imports currently plying their trade in the Darwin & Districts Cricket Competition.
The SACA Premier League is due to commence with the NT Strike at home in Darwin on the 21st September 2013.
