Redbacks League Cup

The NT Strike have claimed an unprecedented victory in the 2016 Redbacks League Cup.

Competing for the fourth time in the competition, the NT Strike performed consistently to secure the top spot in the competition, with one round left to play.

NT Strike coach David King is pleased to see the NT Strike come out on top this year. “This is a fantastic result for NT cricketers who have worked really hard to achieve a result that is a reflection of the ability and strength of cricket in the NT.

“The NT has certainly proven that we have the ability to play at this level and as an indication, most of our players will now go on to play first grade cricket in South Australia or other states during the 2016/17 season which is really pleasing.

“We have seen Thomas Andrews, Jake Weatherald and D’Arcy Short who have progressed through the NT pathway and achieved great success and I’m sure that this result will have selectors taking close notice of our players,” he said.

Notable performances from NT Strike players throughout the tournament include centuries to Ben Wakim (178* - highest score by an NT Strike player and top score in Redbacks League to date), Jake Weatherald (112) and Thomas Andrews (106) and bowling success from Luke Robins (6/41 – best result by an NT Strike player and top result in Redbacks League to date) and Ben Ellis (5/51).

In addition, Luke Robins was awarded the Most Outstanding Player Award, based on votes from team coaches.
