After dominant seasons where each team only encountered 1 loss in the 2021 Winter Cricket League, United Ceylon vs Alice Tigers XI was setup as a tantalising prospect on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in Alice Springs.

Alice Tigers XI won the toss and elected to bat first. A steady start quickly unravelled when the Tigers XI lost 3 wickets for 4 runs in the middle of their innings, resulting in a score of 4/36. Balpreet Singh provided resistance in the middle order, scoring a quickfire 29 off 15, this helping the Tigers XI to a modest total of 10/99 after 17.5 overs.

United Ceylon’s openers came out with intent and after a few plays and misses, both openers settled and went after this total, with some outstanding shot making and innovative batting the highlight of chasing down the Alice Tigers XI total within 11 overs, crowning United Ceylon the 2021 Winter League Champions.

Samindra Madushan was named player of the final with his unbeaten 87* and 0/15 off 2 overs. Samindra was also awarded the Player of The Tournament for accumulating 687 runs at an average of 137.40, with a high score of 161*. For the tournament Samindra also picked up 8 wickets at an average of 31.00, strike rate of 24.00 and economy rate of 7.75.

The match was played in great spirits, with plenty of laughs and awe-inspiring batting. This was accompanied by a great atmosphere on the sidelines created by family, friends and onlookers.
