On-field rivalries have been a big part of Alice Springs Cricket for decades with none bigger in recent years than that between Federal Asbuild and West.

The two most successful clubs across the past five years in Alice Springs cricket, West and Federal have met in the past five A Grade grand finals with the next instalment of the rivalry coming this weekend.

The two clubs will square off across all grades this weekend, squaring off for the prestigious Filmer-Bigg Cup.

The Filmer-Bigg Cup will see the clubs square off in the C Grade, junior division, B Grade, Women’s and A Grade with the victor of the most matches awarded the Cup.

The grand spectacle will see West and Federal meet in the A Grade under lights at Traeger Park, a rematch of last season’s T20 grand final.

Both sides started their T20 campaigns in hot form last week, and the fixture could prove to be a grand final preview yet again.

Dan Donaldson for Federal shapes as they key to victory for his side, both with bat and ball while West are likely to rely on the fast bowling tandem of Samindra Madushan and Thineth Arachchige.

The A Grade fixture will begin from 7pm on Saturday, immediately following the Division One, C Grade and B Grade fixtures.

West will get the opportunity to round into form for that clash on Friday night, when they face Complete Construction Cricket Club at Traeger Park.

Also this week in the A Grade competition, Solergy Alice Tigers will meet Rovers as both sides look for their first T20 win of the season.

Tigers started their short form campaign on the wrong foot last week, suffering losses to Federal and West while Rovers succumbed to CCCC.

That match will be played at Jim McConville Oval from 3pm.

Solergy Alice Tigers will also feature heavily in this week’s B Grade action with the side having a double header on Saturday afternoon.

Tigers will begin the day with a tough matchup against Rovers at Flynn Reserve, beginning at 12pm, before backing it up against Complete Constructions Cricket Club at 3.30pm.

Federal Asbuild Red and Rovers will meet in a C Grade T20 match up on Saturday, squaring off at Paul Fitzsimons Oval from 12pm before Complete Constructions Cricket Club and Solergy Alice Tigers meet at the same venue at 3pm.

In the Women’s Competition, Alice Tigers and CCCC will meet in Thursday night’s early game at Flynn Reserve, beginning from 6pm.

Federal Asbuild and West will meet later from 8pm.
