This new competition attracted participants from the local south Asian communities, including Sri Lanka, India and Pakistan, and encouraged them to join a local club for the regular season.
The Indian “All Singhs” reigned supreme and took out the inaugural championship which was played at Traeger Park.
NT Cricket’s Regional Cricket Officer, Matt Henderson, said the competition had been a big hit. “It was really enjoyable to see players from a wide variety of backgrounds competing with and against each other. There is a such a passion for the game and it was great to see so many new faces”.
There is plenty of cricket action in Alice Springs with this weekend seeing the Aranda Indigenous Indoor Cup Finals and the Clontarf Indoor School Cup in October. Alice Springs is also gearing up for the return of club cricket for the summer season.
