The Hobart Hurricanes had poll position leading into the TIO Men’s Strike League Grand Final beating the City Cyclones the final Round game this morning to finish on top of the ladder.

The Desert Blaze guaranteed themselves a position in the last game of the competition by beating the Northern Tide in Round 11.

The Blaze got off to the perfect start after winning the toss and electing to bowl, dangerous Hurricane Alex Doolan was run out for a duck in the first over.

The Hurricanes then lost its top order batsmen one at a time with Charlie Wakim out for 14 and Caleb Jewel only being able to add 28 to the Hurricanes score.

The Hurricanes looked in trouble sitting with 6/85 by over 15 and were bowled out during the final over for 102.

With a run chase of 103, Timothy Ward and Benjamin Abbott came to the crease to open the run count for the Blaze.

The Blaze quickly ran down the Hurricanes total and in over 16 it was all over, with the end result 2/105.

Hobart Hurricanes Captain Alex Doolan thanked the Desert Blaze for a wonderful final and commended them on their efforts. Doolan said it was a wonderful opportunity for the team to be able to play cricket at this time of the year and is looking forward to next years competition.

Keirran Voelkl was presented the TIO Strike League cup by TIO representative, Jessica Neumann and commended his team on a brilliant grand final performance.

The ‘No More Campaign – Spirit of the Game’ medal for this years TIO Strike League was awarded to Hobert Hurricane Caleb Jewell. Jewell finished the competition with 324 runs consisting of 26 fours and 14 sixes and was recognized as a standout player who displayed the
