Story from Shaun Cusack, Clontarf Foundation Regional Manager - Central Region

Before the carnival, there was a 7:00am cricket clinic attended by academy members and Northern Territory Imparja Cup men's team and coaches.  This was a great opportunity for academy members to interact with Indigenous players and coaches representing the NT team. There was plenty of banter and lots of laughter between stations.

After the clinic, it was time for cricket. Eight games were played between two pitches. Academy members played in the right spirit, had lots of fun and for some this was their first time playing cricket. The grand final was played between Yirara College and Tennant Creek High School academies. The game had plenty of big shots with sixes and fours hit by both teams, with Tennant prevailing and winning by 41 runs in an eight aside format where every player bowls and bats.

Tennant Creek Academy Captain Boyd Cook said,

"We really enjoyed travelling to Alice Springs to play cricket as we don't get to play very much because there is no junior cricket in Tennant Creek. It was good fun playing against the other Clontarf teams. We got to make some new friends and catch up with some old friends too that have moved to Alice Springs this year."

Clontarf Operations Officer Stan Coombe stated,

"The school is very proud about how well our lads played, but more importantly we are proud of how they conducted themselves on and off the field during the trip. Their team camaraderie and the sportsmanship they displayed towards their opponents were both first class."

The after carnival presentations were conducted by Clontarf Foundation operations officer Pietja Span, Cricket Australia representative Adam Cassidy and Clontarf Chairperson Ross Kelly. A shield was presented to the winning academy team in Tennant Creek High School and individual awards were given to members for playing in the right spirit and for being a great bloke.
