Federal Labor’s funding commitment comes off the back of NT Cricket securing a $500,000 grant from the Federal Government for the project in December last year.

This additional funding would fund the installation of 1,100 lux lights at Marrara, enabling NT Cricket to host all levels of cricket at night, from junior to elite.

Commenting on the announcement, NT Cricket CEO Joel Morrison said this was a significant development for cricket in the north.

“Today is a big milestone for our cricket community. This commitment will enable NT Cricket to light up Marrara.

“Installing lights at Marrara means we can take our young cricketers out of the heat, accommodate the many families who have told us they want to play mid-week under lights, and host elite level cricket at night.

“Cricket is thankful for the support of Federal Labor and we are confident that this $1.2 million commitment will be a real game changer for cricket at Marrara,” concluded Mr Morrison
