The below is an update from NT Cricket on activities in the Top End following today’s decision by the NT Government to extend the lockdown of the greater Darwin area for a further 72 hours.

TIO Junior Strike League cancelled

The Junior Strike League scheduled to take place from 5–9 July has been cancelled.

With the lockdown extending until 1pm Friday 2 July there is too much uncertainty for the tournament to proceed. NT Cricket has made this this decision now in order to give certainty to those who were due to participate in the tournament, as well as to provide people with time to cancel their travel plans.

The fluid nature of the ongoing lockdown, and associated state and territory border closures, means that children and families traveling to Darwin from across the country to take part in the tournament next week may be required to undertake mandatory quarantine when returning from the Northern Territory.

The safety and wellbeing of our community and those participating in our programs is paramount and NT Cricket does not want to put anyone at risk of being required to undertake 14 days mandatory quarantine when returning home.

While it is very disappointing that the Junior Strike League program isn’t able to take place in 2021, NT Cricket look forward to the program resuming in 2022 when we hope to have a greater level of certainty in relation to interstate travel.

TIO Women’s Strike League Update

The Women’s Strike League tournament scheduled for 25–29 July will proceed at this point in time. A further update on plans for the tournament will be provided early next week following the planned end of the Darwin lockdown.

TIO Men’s Strike League One Day Series Update

The matches scheduled for Sunday 4 July will proceed at this point in time. This decision will be reviewed following 1pm Friday 2 July when the Darwin lockdown is scheduled to end.

Training has been suspended until 1pm Friday 2 July and plans to reschedule the two postponed games from Sunday 27 June will be communicated at a later date following the conclusion of the lockdown.

Darwin and Districts Cricket Competition Update

The Darwin Cricket Management Committee are reviewing plans for the upcoming weekend of cricket and will provide an update in the coming days.

TIO Community Cricket Camp Update

The school holiday activities scheduled to take place across 12-14 July will proceed at this point in time. A further update will be provided early next week following the planned end of the Darwin lockdown.

We encourage our community across the Northern Territory to following the NT Government directives during the lockdown, and more generally, continue to:

·       Check in to all venues using the Territory Covid-19 check in app

·       Get tested and isolate if you develop symptoms

·       Practice good personal hygiene by regularly washing hands and using hand sanitiser

·       Keep 1.5m distance where possible

·       Follow Cricket Australia’s Covid-19 safety guidelines, and

·       Get vaccinated
