Kane Richardson, Rob Stewart and the Southern Districts Cricket Club have all been named finalists in the 2020 NT Sport Awards.
Richardson has been named as a finalist in the NT Sportsperson of the Year category, awarded to an athlete who has achieved outstanding results in respect to their performance at an international and/or national level. Richardson’s played cricket at the highest level in One Day and T20 cricket, representing Australia, as well Sheffield Shield Cricket for South Australia and in the BBL for the Melbourne Renegades.
Northern Territory Cricket Umpires Association President Rob Stewart has been named as a finalist in the NT Official of the Year category. Stewart’s officiating during 2019 in the DDCC season, TIO Strike League, WNCL practise match between ACT Meteors and Tasmania, National Indigenous Cricket Championships and in early 2020 officiated at the Under 15 National Cricket Championships in Ballarat.
The NT Local Performance of the Year award acknowledges outstanding results in respect to an individual or team’s performance in local Territory based competitions. The Southern Districts Cricket Club’s Premier Grade’s outstanding 2019 season sees the team named as a finalist in this category. After failing to be crowned Premier Grade One Day or Two Day Premiers since the inception of the DDCC Competition, in 2019 the side went undefeated and were crowned both one and two day premiers.
The NT Sports Awards Gala Awards Ceremony is being held on Saturday 5 December where award winners will be named.
