The first of the Darwin and Districts Cricket Competition Grand Finals was held today at Marrara Cricket Ground with the Premier Grade Casuarina All Sports Club One Day Final between 2018 Champions PINT and top of the ladder, undefeated Southern Districts.
Southern Districts won the toss and elected to bat with Captain Keirran Voelkl and Mitchell Bremner taking to the crease hoping to make a solid start for the Crocs.
Bremner fell after only facing four balls with two runs to his name, a big wicket for PINT, but it was the next man to the crease in Damien Burrage who stood tall for the Crocs making 107 off 113 balls.
Voelkl managed a 53 of 71 and Matt Hammond’s 46 off 35 set the Crocs up with a total of 7/273 after their 50 overs.
PINT sent Josh Neill and Marc Calkin out to the middle to start the run chase, however its wasn’t the day for the duo with Neill falling for 17 runs off 28 balls and Calkin falling for 2 runs, both subject to the quick hands of Daniel Mylius.
It was then onto Christopher Kent and Josh Clarkson to make the runs for PINT.
Overs 19 and 20 saw the fall of the PINT batting order with Kent looking for a century to give PINT the boost it needed before a Dean Fry bowl and Voelkl catch saw him leave the ground on 78 off 59 balls. Simon Lavers was bowled by Burrage six balls later.
The Crocs form continued, and they showed why they have been undefeated all-season bowling PINT out in the 39th over for 181 winning by 92 runs.
Man of the Match was awarded to Southern Districts Damien Burrage who made 107 runs off 113 balls and 1/16 off six overs.
Both teams will now reset as they focus on their final two-day fixture next weekend leading into the two-day finals.
