The 2020 edition of the TIO Women’s Strike League is set to launch in August and features a strong contingent of players from the Red Centre for the first time.
While this year’s edition of the tournament will look different to last year, due to coronavirus restrictions preventing interstate teams traveling north, the inclusion of impressive players from Alice Springs and Tennant Creek is an exciting development for the TIO Women’s Strike League.
NT Cricket’s Head of Cricket, Darren Treumer said it was great to be able to combine talent from across the Territory.
“Having the best players from right across the Territory able to take part in the TIO Women’s Strike League for the first time is very exciting.
“It’ll be a great showcase of the local talent we have within our women’s ranks from the Red Centre to the Top End.
“The two teams consist of players who have represented the Territory in Cricket Australia’s National Underage Championships and National Indigenous Cricket Championships, as well as those who play in the Alice Springs and Darwin club cricket competitions,” said Treumer.
TIO CEO, Daryl Madden, said supporting Territorian players is a key feature of the company’s sponsorship of the TIO Strike League.
“We are thrilled to see our investment providing such terrific, competitive opportunities for women in cricket.
“Our sponsorship of the TIO Strike League, as well as community cricket camps and the TIO Talent Combine program aims to provide even greater accessibility for women and emerging cricket players,” Mr Madden said.
The Northern Tide and City Cyclones will get the tournament underway as part of a three-match T20 series across 7-9 August. Entry to all matches is free.
First match: 7pm on Friday 7 August at Cazalys Arena in Palmerston
Second match: 2pm on Saturday 8 August at DXC Arena in Marrara
Third match: 2pm Sunday 9 August at DXC Arena in Marrara
In a further development for the tournament in 2020, all three matches will be livestreamed through NT Cricket’s dedicated TIO Strike League match centre, thanks to broadcast partners InteractSport and FrogBox Live.
