NT played South Australia in the first of the 50-games at the Cricket Australia Under 18 Female National Championships - Lindisfarne Oval in suburban Hobart was the venue.
In a bowling calamity by both sides – a combined total of 77 wides were bowled; SA won by 69 runs.
The red-caps won the toss and batted first – following a steady start, they were 2-50 after 17 overs with seamers Hiruni Liyanarachchi Don and Olivia Pilkington taking a wicket each. Territory bowlers chipped away and with leg-spinner, Zoe Valencic, snaring two wickets, SA were 5-135 after 35 overs. A succession of partnerships enabled SA to accumulate 9-224 at the compulsory closure. The Territory mixed up their bowlers with 10 introduced into the action - thirty wides bowled clearly inflated the South Australian total. Valencic and Ella Anderson were the most successful with two wickets each.
A disastrous start at the top of the batting order put the NT on the back foot and they never really recovered.
Batting at three, skipper, Jessica Bradley (38), proved a stumbling block for the SACA’s but she received little support.
South Australia contributed significantly to the NT’s losing score by bowling a mammoth number of wides – a seemingly inexcusable 47 wides. Fast medium, Ella Wilson (3-16, 8 wides), was the pick of the bowlers.
South Australia: 9-224 (Darcie Brown 44; Zoe Valencic 2-22, Ella Anderson 2-26) d Northern Territory: 10-155 (Jessica Bradley 38; Ella Wilson 3-16).
