The Masters games has been attracting players, fans and holiday makers from across Australia since 1986. According to the Alice Springs Masters Games website 'the 1986 Alice Springs Masters Games (then called the Central Australian Masters Games) became only the second event of its kind to be staged in the world. The only previous multi-sport masters games was the first World Masters in Toronto, Canada in 1985.'

Masters Games cricket co-ordinator Robert Borgas says the event has been a popular attraction for many years, sighting the red centre as a major attraction "cricket is Australia's favourite summer sport and the masters games provides retired cricketers, cricket lovers, friends and family with a great excuse to visit the heart of Australia" said Borgas.

The 2018 installment of the games will see the inclusion of a Women's Division "the Rebel Women's Big Bash has really increased the interest in women's cricket and we expect to see an increase in registration numbers from interested females. The age criteria for the women's division is 25 years and above" said Borgas.
