Mid Year Carnival
The NT Cricket Mid Year U17 Carnival resumed after a Rest Day on Wednesday July 14. The previously undefeated Trinity College struck an inform Darwin Sharks or more precisely an inform Luke Robins who almost single handily demolished the Trinity side. Robins’s match double of 107 runs and 3 wickets ensured that his team stayed in the hunt for the Carnival title.
Alice Springs put the Darwin Bulls hopes to the sword with a hard fought effort with the bat and an excellent effort with the ball. On the back of an excellent 75 not out from skipper Ben Whyte, Alice Springs were able to take early Bulls wickets and maintained the pressure throughout the Bulls innings to ultimately dismiss them for a disappointing 98 runs. Lachlan Page was the chief destroyer, claiming the first five wickets in the Bulls innings.
The Darwin Rays had their first win by defeating Kormilda College. Batting first, Kormilda managed 135 runs after starts from Taylor Mullen and Matt Vaughan. Young Kyle Scrimegour was the chief destroyer with three wickets. Scrimegour backed up his effort with the ball when he managed to provide support to Luke Schaper (68 no) as both lads steered the Rays home in an easy victory.
Friday sees the last day of competition with three teams tied at the top of the ladder. It is feasible for Alice Springs, Trinity College or Darwin Sharks to win the title. Percentages could play a major role in determining the victor.

Bowlers toil in round 9 of the VB Gold Cup
Runs were the order of the day in Round 9 of the VB Gold Cup as the quick bowlers struggled to make an impact in perfect batting conditions.
Palmerston (9 for 327) headed to Tracy Village and started off strongly as openers Kieran Toner (47) and Trent Deveraux (113) produced a strong start for the Power with an 85 run opening stand.
New Zealand off spinner Elliot Herd produced exceptional figures of 9 for 112 off 34 overs, taking all the wickets to fall for Tracy Village.
Solid bowling from Herd had the Villagers back in the game but a 117 run stand between Deveraux and Todd McCann (67) took Palmerston to 2 for 208. Read more...

Darwin has the upper hand against PINT in Round 8 of the VB Gold Cup
Darwin (all out for 172) has taken first innings points against PINT (all out 125 and none for 1) in the first two day match of the season at Kahlin Oval.
After electing to bat, PINT’s top order were undone by a seaming wicket as fast bowlers Greg Brautigam (5 for 40 off 15.2 overs) and Troy Ryan (3 for 12 off 9 overs) made the most of the conditions in the morning session.
At 6 for 47, PINT skipper Simon Lavers (58) was in ominous touch making a run a ball fifty as he was joined by Richie Hodgson (17).
The Lavers and Hodgson partnership of 46 looked to have wrested the innings back in PINT favour before they were both dismissed as Darwin took control with three wickets before lunch. Read more...
