Record Blast Numbers In The Top End

Woolworths Cricket Blast numbers have doubled in 2024 and keep climbing!

  • Over 200 boys and girls have registered throughout Darwin and Alice Springs
  • For the first time all 7 Darwin and Districts Cricket Clubs are running programs

NT Cricket is thrilled to report a record number of Woolworths Cricket Blast (WWCB) participants with over 200 boys and girls from Darwin and Alice Springs registering during the first months of the year, double the number who participated in 2023.

For the first time, all 7 clubs in the Darwin and Districts Cricket Competition are running their own WWCB Programs leading up to the McDonald’s Junior Cricket Season beginning on Saturday 20 April 2024.

WWCB is Cricket Australia’s national program designed to give kids of all abilities aged between 5-10 years the chance to enjoy backyard cricket in a structured, fun and friendly environment.

NT Cricket and local Darwin and Districts Cricket Clubs have worked incredibly hard together throughout Term 1 to drive increased WWCB interest and engagement in schools, laying the foundation for a new generation of Territory kids who love the game.

NT Cricket CEO Gavin Dovey is excited about the significant increase in Blast numbers and what it means for the future of the game in the Territory.

“These numbers are fantastic, and this is just the start of our ambitious growth agenda for the acquisition and retention of more 5-12 year olds.

"Congratulations to all seven Darwin and Districts Cricket Clubs for their efforts in helping double the number of boys and girls currently playing cricket across the greater Darwin Region.

"This will hopefully see a significant number of Blasters transition into the 2024 McDonald’s Junior Cricket Competition in either U9’s or U12’s,” said Dovey.
