Nitmiluk Cup

The Nitmiluk Cup is held annually during November in Katherine, a town situated on the Katherine River, after which it is named, 320 kilometres southeast of Darwin. Katherine is the fourth largest settlement in the Territory and is known as the place where "the Outback meets the Tropics".

The third and largest of the Remote Cricket Carnivals played each Wet Season, the Nitmiluk Cup sees players come together from the town and surrounding communities as far as Darwin, Timber Creek and Borroloola for a weekend of Super 8's cricket.

The competition has two divisions, with teams playing for the Nitmiluk Cup and TJ Tilley Shield.

Nitmiluk Cup 2023

Beginning as an outpost established with the Australian Overland Telegraph Line on the North–South transport route between Darwin and Adelaide, Katherine has grown with the development of transport and local industries including mining – particularly gold mining; a strategic military function with RAAF Base Tindal; also as a tourism gateway to the attractions of nearby Nitmiluk National Park, particularly Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge and it's many ancient rock paintings.
