DDCC Round 3 Review

Nightcliff & Waratah Get Their Seasons Back on Track With Vital Wins to Improve Their Two-Day Records to 2-1

Nightcliff defeated PINT

After a shock outright loss to ladder leader Palmerston last week, Nightcliff responded with a bang, thumping PINT by 150 runs at home on Saturday.

The one-day champions were led by Paul Wasiewicz and Jordan Roads centuries to post a strong score of 6-295 before James Hatton steered the win with a magnificent five-for.

Hatton finished with 5-24 off 7.4 overs, claiming four Greens batters for single-digit scores as the Tigers rose to their second win of the two-day season.

Wasiewicz was top-notch in the first innings, finishing unbeaten on 102 off 219 balls after arriving at the crease at 1-40. His gritty knock saw him take plenty of singles and twos as he found the fence just once in his hard-fought innings.

Roads was also brilliant with a game-high score of 116 coming from 144 deliveries. The Tigers No.4 struck 15 boundaries including two sixes.

The Greens finished on 10-145 in their run chase attempt with wicketkeeper-bat Connor Poulton top scoring with 38 as just two other batters managed to surpass the 10-run mark.

The Tigers rise to third spot on the table a game clear of Darwin and the Greens following the victory.

Waratah defeated Southern Districts

Waratah has scored a huge win over Southern Districts after its captain Jagadesh Koduru powered another century to guide his side to a strong seven-wicket win at Gardens Oval on Saturday.

Koduru struck his fourth century of the season to power the crucial win which now put the Warriors into second spot on the table after back-to-back wins.

The new Warriors captain for 2024 hit an unbeaten 100 off 164 balls to chase down the Crocs’ 217 in 50.5 overs.

Warriors opener Aryan Jain was also superb with 78, continuing his solid form with the bat after scoring a half century earlier in the first two-dayer of the season.

Earlier in the game, Warriors coach and off spinner Udara Weerasinghe was excellent with 4-38 off 17.5 overs including six maidens to help dismiss the Crocs for a below-par total of 217.

His brother Madura Weerasinghe Silva was also a major contributor with 2-41 off 20 overs including seven maidens and Crandel Siegelwin also struck with three wickets.

The Crocs struggled to get any of their batters to big scores with the bat as opener Nic Broes (47) and No.7 Christopher McEvoy (42) were the top scorers.

It means the Crocs will start the campaign with a 0-2 record and will need a solid finish to the season to sneak into the top four.

Palmerston defeated Tracy Village

Palmerston is 10 points clear on top of the DDCC two-day ladder after crushing Tracy Village in a four-wicket win at the Village Green.

Power spinner Rommel Shahzad starred again for the Power with 5-31 off 17.3 overs as the Villagers were bowled out for 160.

Shahzad’s wickets included Tracy top scorers Steven Roser (42) and Guntaas Brar (57), continuing a great season for the crafty off spinner who took a combined six wickets last game.

Power skipper and spinner Hamish Martin also took three wickets in the soild start to the game in the first innings.

Caleb Montague (82), Aidan Firman (56) and Alex Bleakley (59* off 25 balls) took control of the run chase with half centuries each.

Bleakley smashed eight boundaries including five maximums in his entertaining knock as the Power scored their third win of the campaign to start the long-form season with a 3-0 record.

Power had passed Tracy’s score three wickets down in the comfortable win and then declared at 6-d-239.

Tracy struck 4-d-143 in reply with Lenny Wilton (74) and Tom Campbell (50) scoring half centuries as Martin claimed another three wickets.

Power then went out to bat and finished 1-5 after two overs and the completion of the game.
