The largest and most exciting cricket event in the Territory just got a little bigger with the Territory Government through Tourism NT and Northern Territory Major Events supporting the Top End T20 Series for 2024.
Tourism NT Backs Unique Top End T20 Series
The collaboration between Tourism NT, NT Major Events and NT Cricket brings together three organisations to promote the Territory as a unique, must visit destination in Australia to a global audience.
Cricket is now the second most popular sport in the world with over 2 billion fanatical fans and a return to the Olympics in Los Angeles in 2028 a testament to the sport's global power and scale.
The Top End T20 Series highlights Darwin’s perfect dry season weather and unique winter cricket concept, providing the ideal platform to market and promote the Territory as a destination of choice with the Series being broadcasted to a global audience of over 600,000.
The 2024 event will take place between 9-18 August and see a record nine teams participate, with Big Bash franchises including the Perth Scorchers, Adelaide Strikers, Melbourne Stars and Melbourne Renegades joining international cricket powerhouses Pakistan and Bangladesh for 30 blockbuster T20s across 10 days and 5 venues.
NT CRICKET CEO GAVIN DOVEY QUOTE
“We are thrilled to welcome Tourism NT as a partner for this unique event and look forward to working together to promote this incredible part of our country.
“We are also excited to welcome back NT Major Events who have believed in the potential of the Top End T20 Series from day one.”
MINISTER FOR TOURISM AND HOSPITALITY JOEL BOWDEN QUOTE
“Events like this not only put our spectacular landscapes and vibrant culture on the world stage but also attract visitors, driving economic growth.
“There is great value in reaching a global audience, in particular the reach this broadcast will receive in South Asian countries, through cricket to showcase the unique nature and culture of the NT, inspiring future travellers to put the NT on their holiday list.”
MINISTER FOR SPORT KATE WORDEN QUOTE
“The Top End Series brings some of Australia’s best cricketing prospects to the Top End and the Lawler Government has invested in infrastructure to bring matches to TIO Stadium.
“We invested $280,000 in a nursery for drop in cricket pitches next to TIO Stadiums so the ground can be transformed into a cricket venue for these matches.
NT MAJOR EVENTS CEO SUZANA BISHOP QUOTE
“We are proud to enable and acquire top level sporting events to the Territory to highlight the Territory’s point of difference when it comes to events and destination.
"The Darwin dry season is the best time to host top-level cricket, actually it is the only place in Australia it is being played. It is great for visitors, teams and supporters to come to and experience the Northern Territory Cricket's Cricket 365 program and see what’s on offer on and off the pitch this time of year.”
