NT Cricket and Taverners NT Celebrate 20 Years Together With New Partnership
Northern Territory Cricket is pleased to announce Taverners NT will continue as the ‘Official Charity Partner’ of the peak sporting body for a 20th year, with a new deal running from 2025 through to 2028.
The announcement was made at DXC Arena, Darwin where the Australian Men’s Cricketers with an Intellectual Disability (ID) Team completed a week-long training camp and a series of T20 matches against the NT Academy.
Taverners NT is a charitable organisation that distributes funds to worthy causes, primarily in the areas of Indigenous Cricket, Female Cricket, Blind and Low Vision Cricket, Deaf and Hard of Hearing Cricket, and Cricketers with an Intellectual Disability.
Since 2005 Taverners NT has provided important support to several NT Cricket programs, including Australia’s largest Indigenous cricket carnival, the Imparja Cup, as well as NT Academy and Junior Strike League.
NT Cricket CEO Gavin Dovey said he was delighted to continue the partnership.
“Our mission is to unite and inspire our community through cricket and Taverners NT have been a big part of how we achieve that. Many young people within the Northern Territory face real barriers to participation and pursuing their dreams in sport, so we’re thankful for Taverners NT’s long-term support in creating opportunities and promoting cricket as a sport for all where everyone belongs.”
Geoff Cussen, Taverners NT Chairman said:
“To encourage greater participation in sport, it’s important that we foster inclusive environments and remove barriers. We are proud to continue our support of NT Cricket in ‘Giving Young and Disadvantaged Territorians’ a sporting chance for 2025 and beyond.”
The Australia branch of Lord's Taverners was formed in 1982 and now has grown to 11 branches in all States and Territories of Australia with some 3000 members.
These members come from all walks of life, with media, the professions, the arts, entertainment and business communities being well represented. What they all have in common is a general love of sport, particularly cricket, but most importantly a desire to raise money to support disadvantaged young people.
Since inception, the organisation has raised and disbursed more than $10 million nationally in cash and kind.
