Northern Territory Defeated on Day One of the Kookaburra Junior Girls Strike League

The first day of the Kookaburra Junior Girls Strike League saw the Northern Territory take on Victoria Big Cats in a T20 clash at Cazalys Arena, with the tourists emerging victorious by 43 runs.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, the Victorian Big Cats lost an early wicket with Tracy Village’s Joanna Pickett (1/16) bowling opener Gabrielle Perry (7), while Pint’s Jordi O’Toole (0/24) bowled tightly with the new ball without any luck.

After that, the Victorian Big Cats put on a 135-run partnership, with opener Tegan Rule (101*) scoring an unbeaten century, while Lucy Simpson (32) provided support before she was run out by Federal’s Hannah Fior.

The Northern Territory side shared the load with nine individual bowlers used, with Federal’s Skylah Henwood (0/24) and Harshita Singh (0/4) the most economical as the innings ended on 2/153.

In response with the bat, Northern Territory were unable to build any significant momentum in their run chase as they lost regular wickets, with Waratah’s Alice Caldow (1/20) and Lucy Simpson (2/14) the best bowlers for the Big Cats.

Tracy Village’s Joanna Pickett (26), Waratah’s Abbey Warton (12), Pint’s Jordi O’Toole (14*), and Palmerston’s Vishali Bimbral (10) and Naomi McMahon (10*) all reached double figures with the bat; with the Northern Territory ending their innings on 7/110.

Game two will be a 50-over match at DXC2 on Tuesday (8 July)
