Victorian Big Cats Clinch Second Win in the Kookaburra Junior Girls Strike League

Day two of the Kookaburra Junior Girls Strike League saw the Northern Territory take on the Victoria Big Cats in a 50-over clash at DXC 2, with the visitors securing victory by 6 wickets.

After being sent into bat, Northern Territory got off to a strong start with Palmerston’s Vishali Bimbral (20) and Tracy Village’s Ekam Dhillon (32) combining for a 72-run opening stand. This was followed up by Federal’s Skylah Henwood (12) and Tracy Village’s Joanna Pickett (38*) who continued to build a strong score for the Territory, reaching 4/124.

However, a series of wickets throughout the middle overs restricted the NT’s momentum, with Waratah’s Alice Caldow (2/25) and Gabrielle Perry (2/8) the best performers with the ball. Wests Olivia Schulz (12) provided some late resistance as the innings closed on 9/173 from 50 overs.

The Victorian Big Cats run chase got off to a terrible start with Caldow run out first ball by Federal’s Skylah Henwood, but after that a series of partnerships between Isabella Henderson (24), Gabrielle Perry (50) and Evelyn Niedzwiedzki (32*) led to visitors to victory in the 37th over.

The Northern Territory fought hard in the field with wickets shared between Hannah Fior (1/14) and Skylah Henwood (1/22), while Fior also contributed with a run-out.

Game three is a T20 match at DXC2 on Wednesday.
