CELEBRATING COMMUNITY CULTURE AND CRICKET
The Multicultural Cup is a celebration of the people and cultures that make Darwin such a vibrant community. In 2025, the tournament welcomes teams representing Nepal, Indigenous Australia, and English heritage, reflecting the city’s rich cultural diversity and the global community that calls Darwin home.
Muhammad Abdullah Sohail, NT Cricket's Competitions & Pathways Coordinator said the competition is an opportunity for cricket to celebrate and connect with Darwin’s diverse communities.
“Research continues to show that Southeast Asian cricket loving communities are driving the Northern Territory’s population growth, and Cricket Australia’s Multicultural Action Plan identifies the Northern Territory as has having the highest percentage (61%) of people in the country with one or more parents born overseas.”
“The Multicultural Cup is a celebration of who we are as a community. It is a chance to see culture expressed on the cricket field and in the crowd, where families and friends come together through a shared love of cricket to represent their heritage and celebrate their identity."
City of Darwin CEO Simone Saunders said the Multicultural Cup is a great opportunity for Darwin’s diverse communities to come together and celebrate their heritage through cricket.
“City of Darwin is proud to support this event through our Community Grants Program, helping to strengthen connections across our diverse communities.
Initiatives like this play an important role in building connections and promoting a sense of belonging across our city,” she said.
