NT Cricket Acknowledges Territory Participants in the Cricket Australia National Masters Championship

NT Cricket acknowledges and congratulates the Territory players taking part in the Cricket Australia National Masters Championships, with nine representatives in the Women’s Over-40 divisions and a men’s team entered in the Over-50 division.

The increasing NT participation in the National Masters Championships highlights the commitment and passion for cricket within the Territory, with these community-driven teams playing an important role in increasing playing opportunities for local cricketers at a national level.

Women’s NT Crocs Continue to Lead the Way

The Women’s Over-40 National Masters Championship was recently completed in Perth, November 9 to 13, with nine Territory women competing across two divisions as the Northern Territory Crocs. The group has worked in collaboration with South Australia over several years to create opportunities for Territory women to participate at National Masters Championships, and this year the NT Crocs featured in both Division 2 and Division 3.

In Division 2, the NT Crocs finished in fifth position after defeating South Australia in the 5 v 6 playoff, and the team also recorded wins over Tasmania and Victoria. The NT Crocs (Division 3) finished in fourth after losing the 3 v 4 playoff against NSW, with earlier victories against Tasmania and South Australia.

Men’s NT Masters Team Takes the Field

On the back of the momentum of NT female participation at a national level, a NT men’s team has come together to form an Over 50s Masters team, competing in Division 3 matches in Brisbane. The group originated from Darwin and Districts players who were eager to keep the game going after the regular season and worked collectively to create the opportunity.

The team is captained by Anthony Dent, with Rod Anderson as vice-captain.

Tim Shaw has played a key role in coordinating the group, securing sponsors and arranging tournament logistics alongside the contribution of other teammates.

It is encouraging to see Territory players taking the initiative to stay involved in cricket outside the regular season. Across the men’s and women’s Masters teams, both only exist because people have been willing to put in the time and effort to make it possible, and that commitment deserves recognition.
