Despite a strong start to their day two fixture, Northern Territory have been defeated by South Australia at the Cricket Australia U19 National Championships.
Batting first, the Territory raced to 0/70 off 10 overs and then 1/110 before a middle order collapse saw the side bowled out for 183.
Aayan Nadeem (Footscray CC) was again the leading run scorer for the NT as he contributed 79 from just 71 balls (including 3 sixes), while captain Archie McCormick (Waratah CC) provided support with 22. SA leg spinner Jay Temme was the standout performer taking 6/27 from his 10 overs.
In response, SA looked comfortable throughout their run chase, only losing 3 wickets as they reached the score in the 34th over. Rehaan Shyamsundar (Southern Districts) was the most economical bowler taking 1/37 from his 10 overs, and fellow spinner Junaid Mansoor (Waratah CC) again showed his future potential taking 1/24 at just 15 years of age.
NT Cricket Head Coach Trent Keep said there were encouraging signs across the group despite the result.
“There were periods today where we played some very good cricket. Aayan’s innings set us up well and there were moments in the field where our energy lifted. The next step is delivering that consistently through the full 50 overs. The group continues to learn and we will look to build on this performance in our next match.”
NT will now prepare for their third fixture against Victoria Country, scheduled for Thursday 4 December at 11.30 am in Perth.
