Northern Territory have completed the opening two rounds of the Under 16 Female National Championships, recording a competitive performance against South Australia and a victory over Tasmania.
In round one, NT were sent into the field against South Australia, who posted 6 for 243 from their 50 overs. The Territory bowlers worked consistently throughout the innings, applying pressure through disciplined spells. Trisha Bajaj (Victoria) led the attack with 2 wickets, while the group combined well to restrict scoring in key passages and maintain intensity across the innings.
NT’s response saw the side bat through 49 of their 50 overs, finishing on 155. Contributions were shared throughout the order, with no single partnership dominating the innings but several players getting starts. While unable to build a match defining stand, the performance highlighted growing depth within the group and an ability to remain competitive across the full innings.
Round two saw NT produce a complete all-round performance against Tasmania, securing their first win of the Championships. Tasmania were dismissed for 120, with PINT Cricket Club’s Jordi O’Toole delivering a standout spell to claim 5 wickets. The left arm quick produced the best bowling figures by an NT Under 16 female player at a National Championship, setting the tone early with pace, accuracy and movement.
O’Toole was well supported by Palmerston Cricket Club’s Naomi McMahon and Trisha Bajaj, who each collected 2 wickets as the Territory wrapped up the innings efficiently.
The run chase was controlled from the outset through a strong 79 run opening partnership. Ekam Dhillon (Tracy Village) contributed a composed 34 before falling lbw, while fellow opener Bridget Slattery continued her consistent form with a fluent 30. Hasanjot Kaur (SA) finished the match in style, striking an unbeaten 20 from 11 balls to guide NT to 4 for 121 and seal the victory.
NT will look to build on the momentum from round two as the Championships continue.
