The Darwin and Districts Cricket Competition (DDCC) is set to become the first community cricket competition in Australia to implement a Decision Review System (DRS) following the announcement of an innovative 12-month trial in partnership with Fulltrack AI.
The pilot program will integrate cutting-edge ball-tracking technology into the premier winter cricket competition, providing independent assistance for LBW decisions. The system, which operates via a high-resolution camera strapped to an umpire’s chest, delivers a decision on whether the tracked delivery would have hit the stumps.
Karl Mayne, Head of Clubs and Competitions at NT Cricket, said the move reinforces the DDCC’s commitment to leading the way in Australian cricket.
"This innovation represents the DDCC's standing to move community cricket forward, following our successful launch of Frogbox live streaming and PlayHQ scoring and competition management across Australia. By integrating the Fulltrack AI system, we are providing our clubs with professional-standard tools that enhance the integrity of the game and the experience for players and officials alike," Mayne said.
The 2026 trial will be rolled out in two phases, beginning with Women’s Division 1 matches under the supervision of accredited umpires before expanding to additional grades.
The technology is specifically designed to provide clarity on LBW shouts, with each team receiving two unsuccessful reviews per innings.
Arjun Verma, CEO at Fulltrack AI, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership with Australia’s premier winter competition.
"We are thrilled to partner with the DDCC to bring our ball-tracking technology to the community level. Darwin's unique winter cricket window makes it the ideal environment to showcase how AI can assist officials and players in real time. We have chosen to partner with the DDCC because of their forward-thinking approach to competition management and their reputation as the premier winter cricket destination in the country," Verma said.
As part of the 12-month pilot, participating clubs will also gain access to the Coach+ platform, a high-level performance tool.
To ensure a seamless rollout, Fulltrack AI staff members will travel to Darwin in April to oversee the implementation and support clubs during the initial launch phase.
NT Cricket will release details on the DDCC fixture for 2026 shortly and host a Community Forum for players and volunteers on Saturday, March 21, at DXC Arena.
