NT Cricket, in partnership with AANT, is pleased to recognise Praveen Weebaduarachchige from the Katherine Cricket Competition and Katherine Cows Cricket Club as March’s AANT Volunteer of the Month.
Praveen has played a key role in rebuilding cricket in Katherine, helping lead the organisation and administration of the Katherine Cricket Competition during a period of significant change. As the competition transitioned to align more closely with NT Cricket competition structures, Praveen helped guide the competition through its redevelopment and return.
Since recommencing the season, Praveen has committed countless hours behind the scenes to help bring the competition back to life. He has coordinated logistics, built relationships across the community, engaged players and volunteers, and helped ensure competitions run smoothly each week. Much of this work has been done voluntarily and outside standard hours, reflecting his strong commitment to cricket in Katherine.
Praveen has also helped drive several important initiatives within the competition, including the introduction of FrogBox live streaming and an increase in team participation. He has worked closely with NT Cricket and local council to help secure grant funding aimed at improving playing conditions and supporting the long-term growth of the game in the region.
His contribution extends well beyond administration. Praveen is known for his reliability and willingness to help wherever needed, regularly taking on challenges that would normally be shared across multiple volunteers. He approaches problems with a calm and practical mindset and continues to look for ways to strengthen cricket opportunities in Katherine.
Praveen’s leadership, commitment and passion for community cricket make him a deserving recipient of March’s AANT Volunteer of the Month Award. NT Cricket and AANT thank Praveen for his outstanding contribution by awarding him a 12-month Premium AANT Membership and a $250 United fuel voucher.
