Northern Territory Cricket proudly recognises National Reconciliation Week (NRW), held annually from 27 May to 3 June.
National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to reflect on how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
Northern Territory Cricket is committed to progressing reconciliation through meaningful relationships, respect and opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples across our game and communities.
Cricket has a rich and longstanding history in the Northern Territory, with Mparntwe (Alice Springs) hosting the largest Indigenous cricket carnival in Australia, the Imparja Cup, established in 1994. Across the Territory, cricket continues to play an important role in bringing communities together through remote Indigenous cricket carnivals held in Timber Creek, Borroloola, Katherine and Tennant Creek.
Northern Territory Cricket acknowledges the significant contribution Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have made and continue to make to cricket throughout the Territory. From grassroots participation to community leadership, culture and connection remain central to the growth and strength of the game.
This year’s National Reconciliation Week theme, “All In,” encourages all Australians to continue working together toward a more reconciled nation.
Northern Territory Cricket remains committed to creating inclusive environments where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples feel welcomed, respected and empowered to participate in all aspects of cricket.
As part of National Reconciliation Week, Northern Territory Cricket encourages the cricket community to take time to listen, learn and reflect on the important role reconciliation plays in shaping a stronger future for all Australians.
