NT Cricket, in partnership with AANT, is pleased to recognise Chris “Pargy” Pargeter from Darwin Cricket Club as April’s AANT Volunteer of the Month. What started as a one-off Sunday afternoon fill-in has grown into a consistent commitment to the Eagles. Over the past seven years, both as a player and volunteer, Pargy has contributed across junior cricket, administration and general club operations.
As Junior Coordinator, Pargy plays an important role in helping young players and families feel welcome at the club. He is a regular presence at training, working closely with coaches, parents and volunteers to create a positive environment where children can learn, improve and enjoy the game.
A major focus of Pargy’s work this season has been leading Darwin Cricket Club’s Woolworths Cricket Blast program. With support from NT Cricket, participation numbers have grown strongly over the past two years, helping more children take their first steps into club cricket.
Reflecting on his involvement with Darwin Cricket Club, Pargy said:
“Getting involved with the club has been really enjoyable, especially now that my son is coming through the junior program. It has been rewarding to see the way everyone works with the kids at training, and it is also a good chance to get outside the office and be part of the club environment.
“This year we have also seen a big uplift in parents upskilling and getting involved, which has been fantastic. There has been support from right across the club, from A Grade players through to our older juniors helping at training each week, along with some really committed families.
“Darwin Cricket Club might be one of the smaller clubs in the competition, but I feel we have a really strong reach across cricket. That extends beyond the regular season, with long-serving Indigenous players involved through the Imparja Cup, three teams representing the club at the Nitmiluk Cup this year, and the club proudly taking part in the Chiang Mai Sixes for around 30 years.”
That whole-of-club approach has helped strengthen the link between juniors and senior cricket, with more young players now transitioning into senior cricket.
Pargy’s contribution also extends to women’s cricket. He regularly encourages the club to get behind its women’s teams at matches, social events and club functions, helping players across different teams feel valued and included. Behind the scenes, Pargy is someone NT Cricket and Darwin Cricket Club can rely on. His knowledge of PlayHQ and club administration helps coaches, team managers and committee members with registrations, team lists and troubleshooting, making the day-to-day running of the club easier for those around him.
Pargy’s approachable nature, reliability and commitment to the Eagles community make him a deserving recipient of April’s AANT Volunteer of the Month Award.
NT Cricket and AANT thank Pargy for his outstanding contribution by awarding him a 12-month Premium AANT Membership and a $250 United fuel voucher.
Nominations are now open for May’s AANT Volunteer of the Month. If you know someone who goes above and beyond for their club, submit your nomination here.
