DDCC Turns Pink in Support of the McGrath Foundation

NT Cricket is proud to announce the launch of its Pink Stumps Day campaign across the Darwin & Districts Cricket Competition, in support of the McGrath Foundation. Running from 26 July to 3 August 2025, this initiative aims to raise vital funds to provide McGrath Cancer Care Nurses for people experiencing cancer across Australia.

Why We’re Supporting Pink Stumps Day

Around one in two people in Australia will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. The McGrath Foundation is committed to ensuring that no one goes through cancer without the care of a McGrath Cancer Care Nurse. These nurses provide free clinical, emotional, and psychosocial care to individuals and families experiencing cancer.

“Pink Stumps Day is more than just a fundraiser—it’s a cause close to our hearts. Tracy Village Cricket Club has a deep connection to the McGrath Foundation and has proudly championed its mission within our community. We’re honoured to host our Pink Stumps Day on Sunday, August 3, and stand together in support of those affected by cancer.”
— Mel Nixon, President, Tracy Village Cricket Club

Since 2005, the McGrath Foundation has supported over 161,000 people and their families through cancer in Australia. Since expanding its care to all types of cancer, the McGrath Foundation is calling on communities to help fund more nurses across the country.

The McGrath Foundation’s connection to cricket is deeply rooted in the success of the annual Pink Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground, held every January in memory of Jane McGrath. Since its inception in 2009, the Pink Test has become one of the most iconic charitable sporting events in the world

How Clubs Are Getting Involved

All clubs in the Darwin & Districts Cricket Competition are invited to participate in Pink Stumps Day by:

  • Nominating player ambassadors to lead fundraising and awareness efforts
  • Wearing pink-themed items during match days
  • Sharing McGrath Foundation messaging on social media
  • Hosting club-based fundraising activities and events

A Grade and Women’s Division 1 matches will use Pink Balls, with the Waratah v PINT Men’s A Grade at Gardens Oval a Day/Night fixture.

Top performers in each match will wear a pink McGrath Foundation cap while fielding, symbolising care, courage, and community support.

“Pink Stumps Day gives our clubs a meaningful way to contribute to a cause that touches so many lives. It’s a reminder that cricket can be a powerful platform for change, and we’re proud to be part of it.”
— Karl Mayne, Head of Clubs and Competitions, NT Cricket

“We’re incredibly grateful to NT Cricket and the Darwin & Districts clubs for embracing Pink Stumps Day. Every dollar raised helps us place more McGrath Cancer Care Nurses in communities across Australia, ensuring that no one goes through cancer without care.”
— Tracy Bevan, Ambassador & Director, McGrath Foundation
