August Volunteer of the Month: Michael Zampa

NT Cricket, in partnership with AANT, is proud to recognise Michael “Mike” Zampa of Palmerston Cricket Club as August’s AANT Volunteer of the Month.

A dedicated member of Palmerston Cricket Club, Mike has spent the past four years leading the club’s Under 9s program. Even after his own children progressed to the Under 12s and Under 15s, he chose to stay with the youngest age group, where a love of cricket is first formed. Week after week he brings energy, patience and genuine care to every session, creating a fun and inclusive environment that builds skills and confidence for every child.

Coach Mike is the heart of our junior program and truly deserving of this recognition. We honestly don’t know where we’d be without him.

‐ Palmerston Junior Coordinator Briony Gallagher

Reflecting on the recognition, Mike shared:

“Volunteering for me is about the club and the great people around it. It is pretty special when a parent taps me on the shoulder and says their child would not still be playing without those early sessions. I put my heart and soul into it, and I have a lot of fun with the kids.

My advice to new volunteers is to be patient. We had 28 registered Under 9s this year, so Wednesdays can get hectic. Encourage parents to get involved, keep it fun for that hour and help the kids stay excited about cricket.

Big thanks to all my superstar Under 9s at PCC and their parents, and a huge thanks to Briony and Gags for their ongoing support for the juniors and the whole PCC community.”

Mike’s consistency and positive example continue to lift Palmerston’s junior program. He models what great junior coaching looks like, and his impact is already being felt as players move through the age groups with confidence and a love for the game.

NT Cricket and AANT thank Michael for his service by awarding him a 12-month Premium AANT Membership and a $250 United fuel voucher.

Nominations are now open for September’s AANT Volunteer of the Month. If you know someone who goes above and beyond for your club, submit your nomination here.
