An 18-Season Partnership as McDonald's Continues to Back Junior Cricket in the Top End

McDonald’s partnership with junior cricket in Darwin dates back to 2008, built on a simple aim to expand access to sport for Territory kids. Now in its eighteenth season, that investment is reflected in record participation and a competition that continues to grow in scale and structure.

NT Cricket is thrilled to announce the continuation of McDonald's as the naming rights partner of the Darwin & Districts Junior Cricket Competition for 2026, extending one of the Northern Territory's most enduring community sporting partnerships.

The renewal comes as junior cricket across the Top End is experiencing record participation, the 2026 competition has been structurally expanded to meet demand, with the introduction of additional grades and competitive divisions ensuring every young cricketer has a pathway to play.

The 2026 McDonald's Junior Cricket Competition will feature five age groups across six divisions:

  • Under 9s
  • Under 11s
  • Under 13s: Division 1 & Division 2
  • Under 16s: Division 1 & Division 2

It is the most comprehensive junior cricket structure the Darwin & Districts competition has seen, and it wouldn't be possible without a partner willing to grow alongside it.

NT Cricket Head of Clubs & Competitions, Karl Mayne, says the milestone speaks for itself.

"The continued support from McDonald’s is instrumental in allowing us to grow the game year after year. Reaching an 18th season together is a testament to our shared commitment to Territory families," Mayne said.

"It is fantastic to see record numbers of children choosing cricket as their sport of choice. The introduction of new divisions in 2026 is a direct response to that growth, ensuring every child has a place to play and develop.”

Phillip Coleman, Franchise Owner of McDonald’s Stuart Park and Darwin Central, noted the visible impact the sport is having on the local community.

"McDonald’s is deeply committed to supporting community sport, and it has been a privilege to watch the junior cricket landscape evolve over the nearly two decades we’ve been involved," Coleman said.

"The growth of the game in recent years has been particularly noticeable. Seeing the record participation and the expansion of the grades for 2026 is a great win for the Darwin community, and we are proud to be part of that journey."
