NT Cricket, in partnership with AANT, is pleased to recognise Simon “Simmo” Jones from Nightcliff Cricket Club as August’s AANT Volunteer of the Month.
Simmo has become a highly active member of the Nightcliff cricket community, contributing across committee work, sponsorship, junior coaching and senior cricket. His involvement reflects the role many volunteers play in keeping community sport moving throughout the season, not just on game day.
This year, Simmo joined the Nightcliff committee for the first time and took on the role of Sponsorship Coordinator. It is an important role that requires time, follow-up and relationship building, working with local businesses and helping secure support for community cricket in the Territory.
Reflecting on why he became more involved at Nightcliff, Simmo said:
"I have been involved with Sporting Clubs for most of my life and one thing that has stood out to me was the amount of work required to keep a club functioning not only on game day... but for the whole season.
Nightcliff Cricket Club has given my son the opportunity to play, so I thought it was time for me to give back to the sport I love and now the Club I love even more.
'Many hands make light work' as they say and Nightcliff Cricket Club are full of those willing to help when required."
Alongside his committee role, Simmo is in his second season coaching his son Lenny’s Under 13 team and has also taken on the captaincy of Nightcliff’s C Grade side. That involvement across both junior and senior cricket shows his commitment to supporting the club at multiple levels.
At junior level, Simmo helps create a positive environment where young players can learn, improve and enjoy their cricket. At senior level, captaining the C Grade side shows the same approach, bringing players together, setting the tone and making sure everyone feels part of the team.
Simmo is known around the club as someone willing to help when something needs to be done. Whether it is a working bee, fundraising event, training requirement or general club support, he continues to put his hand up and contribute where he can.
Simmo’s commitment, energy and all-round contribution to Nightcliff Cricket Club make him a deserving recipient of August’s AANT Volunteer of the Month Award.
NT Cricket and AANT thank Simmo for his outstanding contribution by awarding him a 12-month Premium AANT Membership and a $250 United fuel voucher.
