Administrator Backs NT Nationals Teams

NT Cricket was delighted to welcome the 24th Administrator of the Northern Territory, His Honour, the Honourable Mr David Connolly, to DXC Arena during the week to meet members of the NT Cricket Academy.

A self-confessed cricket tragic, His Honour watched male academy players practice as they prepare for the Cricket Australia U17s and U19s Underage National Championships in December (Brisbane) and January (Perth) respectively.

His Honour also spoke with Head of Cricket Nick Winter, newly appointed Pathway & Talent Development Coach Tim Bresnan, and Taverners NT Secretary Jo Fitzpatrick about the importance of talented young Territorian boys and girls getting opportunities in sport.

NT Cricket CEO Gavin Dovey said the Administrator’s love of cricket was clear for everyone to see.

“For His Honour to take the time out of his busy schedule to come and visit the boys and wish them good luck was really kind of him.

“To have someone of his standing in the Territory take such an interest in their preparation, their skill sets, and where they are in their journey as aspiring elite cricketers was humbling for the boys.

“His Honour is also clearly very knowledgeable about the sport so it was great to see his excitement at Tim Bresnan’s appointment and how incredible it is to have a World Cup winner coaching here.

“More than that, His Honour showed that cricket is such a great vehicle to connect people.

“While he is in a very high formal role and obviously a bit older than the boys, he chatted so easily with them through that shared passion for the sport.”

As Administrator, His Honour represents the Crown in right of the Northern Territory and His Honour performs a similar constitutional role to that of a state governor.

Taverners NT is NT Cricket’s official charity partner and raises funds to help young, disabled, Indigenous, and disadvantaged Northern Territory residents play sport — especially cricket.
